Imagine an area of London populated by characters from Charles Dickens’ novels.  What storylines could be developed from the interactions of people like Scrooge, Fagin and Miss Havesham?  The folks at the BBC have been imagining the possibilities and a 20 part series that brings various characters together in way that Dickens never imagined will begin filming soon.  The series is titled Dickensian and may be extended beyond the 20 initial episodes if it is a success.

Nick Sousanis, a Ph.D. candidate at Columbia University, decided to write his dissertation on the relationship of words and pictures in literature.  Rather than simply putting his thoughts on paper, he came up with a unique approach: his dissertation is a graphic novel.  He got his Ph.D., and Harvard University Press has published the dissertation to great acclaim.

Paper TownsBuzzfeed recently asked its newsletter readers to tell them about books you can’t put down once you start reading them.  The resulting list of 53 books is an eclectic mixture of current works and classics.  I can almost guarantee that you’ll find something appealing.

And Popsugar lists 40 books that will become movies this year.
